Nearly five months since welcoming their first child together, Bonko Khoza and his wife Lesego got candid about how parenthood has affected the dynamics of their relationship.

During a recent episode with The Makhs, the two actors reflected on their journey with their newborn baby, speaking of the support they have had from their parents.

“Naturally there's that added element in the home, so what we knew as our dynamic, now has changed. So adjusting to that is difficult, it's tricky. Having a newborn you live in the three-hour gaps that she sleeps in within the 24 hours. So that is obviously evident,” Bonko said.

“The lack of sleep, the business ... we help each other relieve each other. But I think at the foundation of it, if anything for me, I'm learning more about Lesego right now in this phase, learning how amazing of a mother she is. At the foundation we still got it.”

When announcing the arrival of their baby girl, the SAFTA award-winning actor exclusively told TshisaLIVE they were settling well into their roles as first-time parents.

“It's been good, and it's been tiring, but nothing beyond my abilities. From an actor's perspective, it's the late nights, which I feel like I've been used to. You focus on the child. From an energy point of view, they feel when you are giving them everything you have,” he said.

He's had great support from Lesego to ease him into this new chapter of his life.

The couple first met at art school and started dating in March 2013. They married eight years later in 2021.

“It's been a beautiful time, my wife and I are learning more about each other now. I'm trying to support her as a mom, she's trying to support me as a dad, and she's an amazing mom so far. If anything that's my biggest blessing,

“Lesego is really heaven-sent for me. I can't even figure myself out. I was once suicidal which means I was sick of myself at a point. So she's somebody who genuinely loves me every day and I love her so much. She's absolutely amazing, and we're having a good time with our daughter, learning parenthood, navigating parenthood, navigating our work, the balance of everything.”
