Somizi Mhlongo has maintained relevance in the entertainment industry for decades, and does not plan to stop any time soon.

He was asked to step back from the Metro FM mic after meeting with his Metro FM bosses in August 2021. This as he was dealing with abuse allegations from his “estranged” husband Mohale Motaung at the time.

But, as with all things, it seems the storm has passed and this year the media personality made a strong comeback.

Somizi hosts two shows on the station, Metro FM's The Bridge on week days between 9am and 12pm and the The Weekend Breakfast Sounds Good.

His comeback on the national station has also scored him another gig as host of the Black Curtain at the annual Metro FM Music Awards alongside Mpumi Mlambo capturing all that happens behind the scenes with the stars of the night.

“Metro FM does not go with the wind. I am not a radio DJ but a personality who is on radio. It's a mutual respect kind of relationship,” Somizi told TshisaLIVE.

“If anyone had to take a leaf out of my life, they'd understand it never ends. I am 50 and I'm at the peak of my career. I'm like the 'it girl' who just arrived. For me, that is what makes my career exciting and interesting.

“If anyone has lost hope, look at my career. I have had ups and downs but more than anything there is longevity to this thing. It's up to you to make it not end.”

Somizi is set to return as a judge on the Idols SA final season and was recently unveiled as a cast member on The Masked Singer South Africa.

After the launch of his cookbook in 2020, Somizi is also looking to do more in the culinary space. He plans to open a mini restaurant business at Prison Break Market in Sunninghill, Johannesburg

“I'm doing it my way, not following anyone's journey. Hence the food is going to be what Somizi likes to eat. It's going to be hearty, tasteful and on-the-go.”

For the past three years, the media personality has been working on his kids' clothing line, Sompire Kids, and has set August as his launch date.

“I never do anything I'm not passionate about. Everything bounces on a very thick skin, and I'm not stopping for nobody.”
