Actor and media personality Khaya Dladla has opened up about his break-up from his ex-fiancé businessman Mercutio Buthelezi.

In a recent interview on Engineer Your Life with Lungelo KM, the radio host lifted the lid on why things ended.

He said he was trying to “create someone who didn't exist”.

“It was a show and I didn’t realise many of us were acting in that show. There were so many red flags but I wanted to constantly paint them pink because of the idea of a relationship I thought I was in vs what I was really in.”

“I still wonder how many of us were in this relationship, because I now know we’re so many of us. I even lost count.”

The pair got engaged in 2020.

Mercutio popped the question in front of close friends and family at a glam surprise engagement party.

Khaya shared the news on Instagram with a snap of himself and bae sporting a gorgeous ring.

With a caption that read, “Our moment has finally arrived and he's officially mine”, Mercutio expressed how happy he was that Khaya said “Yes”.

According to a source who spoke to Sunday World, there was trouble in paradise when Khaya moved to Jozi after he scored an acting gig on House of Zwide.

“The distance between the couple became one of the issues they couldn’t work around. Initially they had no problem with the distance when Khaya moved to seek greener pastures, but they eventually started to drift apart.”
