When I sat down to write this column, 800 people had already died on the roads since the start of the festive season. Mind you, this is just for the period between December 15 and 28. Now the great trek back home begins. Expect the carnage to worsen. Last year, 1,400 drivers, passengers and pedestrians left their homes over the festive season and returned in a coffin.
